$5,000,000,000.00 (FIVE BILLION DOLLAR$$) to get a $400,000.00 per year job? ? ?
Best “guessestimates” seem to point to an expenditure of over $5,000,000,000.00++ ( that’s (5) FIVE BILLION++$$$) by the various candidates seeking the Presidency of these United States of America and screams for the following comments and observations, not only from this observer but all Americans ( readers will certainly have many, many more of their own to add)
1. The person who gets the “job” he’s/she’s seeking, namely, the Presidency, would have to serve for 12,000++ years, or some 3,000 four year terms, to make back that 5 BILLION ! With only two terms possible under the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America the new president must make it up somewhere. So there must be more than just the Presidential salary, regular rides on Air Force One and life in the White House as an incentive. Wonder what it could be???
2. Nobody gives/makes available over $5,000,000,000.00 to anyone ( or for that matter any significant amount of money ) without expecting “something in return”. Wonder just what form those/that “quid pro quo” would take??? Maybe favorable contracts; lucrative jobs in the administration; votes swung in their favor/direction or perhaps laws changed to benefit those donors?? Bet you readers can come up with lots more.
3. The definition of BRIBERY references the giving of money or goods or other forms of recompense to a recipient (candidate?) in exchange for an alteration of their behavior (vote) to benefit the giver. When someone gives something of value in return for either some “consideration” ( see #2 above ) or any other reason that benefits the donor we call it a political campaign contribution; a gift to ones foundation or simply “lobbying”. In their infinite wisdom, politicos have framed the nation’s campaign finance laws to call such activities legal. To we simpler Americans this whole process stinks of corruption, bribery and criminal activity that would put us behind bars.
As as aside: When we simple Americans lie we go to jail…when a politician lies he or she simply “misspeaks”, stays in office and gets re-elected again and again!!!!!
4. Any person, exercising “COMMON SENSE”, can see right through all aspects of sanctioned political bribery and conclude that the $5,000,000,000.00+ being spent to finance the current presidential campaign has more strings attached to it than a sky full of paper kites! It’s time we had some real campaign finance reform so one doesn’t have to either be a BILLIONAIRE or be funded by other BILLIONAIRES ( individuals or corporations or foreign governments) to represent the best interests and protect the American people. Being beholding to ANYONE but the American people isn’t the way the Founding fathers designed this system to work.
Respectfully submitted, Bill Bresnan
